We woke up this morning, packed up and shipped out. Well shipped to the apartment we are staying in for the remainder of our trip in Paris. We stopped at a café to get a quick breakfast, hailed a taxi and we were on our way. We arrived at the apartment which is key padded like a vault. It is an adorable 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment with all the amenities. We got ourselves situated and decided to head to the grocery store. We arrive and are a bit confused because it is a clothing store but upon walking in it has a grocery store downstairs. Random.
We get food for lunches and breakfasts for the next couple days. I feel like a true Parisian by the end of this. More and more of my French is coming back to me. We hit a boulangerie on the way back for some baguette and croissants. We eat lunch on our cute little patio. We have planned the remainder of our day and our waiting for the dryer to finish so Alan has socks.
Alan relaxes for a bit and while I update. We try to get the clothes out of the dryer with little success. After a little button pressing, it finally unlocks. The clothes are really hot and still not dry. So we air dry like the Europeans.
We head out to Montmartre to go to Sacre-Coeurs Basilica via the Metro. The Metro is much easier to navigate, purchase tickets and ride on; even in another language. We hike up to the church, do the church loop and head to Place du Tertre. On our way up the hill, we have our first encounter with tourist scams. The “friendship bracelet” scam. Thankfully we said no (4 times) and continued on our way. Place du Tertre is a cute area with lots of cafes, artists and expensive bottles of water.
From there we head down the hill to see the windmills from the gypsy days then past one of Van Gough’s houses. We get on the Metro to head to the Arc de Triomphe. We only take pictures because we will be going in it either tomorrow or Wednesday. This is where we saw our second tourist scam. This is when a woman asks if you speak English while distracting you to get into your wallet (or other belongings). Again, this did not work on us!
We continued on our way back to the apartment, finding a Quick (European burger joint). We are now getting ready for our dinner at the Eiffel Tower.
